Press release

Deta wants to create a new perspective: knitwear turning into swimwear, grandma’s embroidering bikinis, retro being contemporary. We design knitted swimwear produced in the US, aiming to give vintage styles a contemporary look. Due to the knitted texture our suits double as daywear and lounge wear as well. „It is so comfy I wear it as a bra all the time“ as one of our customers said.

Our 2nd collection ocean picnic features 3 styles in stilton blue, cherry red, soft lilac and a lucent scallop-like color.  One piece, two piece and tank top are knitted out of a technical yet really soft yarn. An even ribbing on the one piece and two piece bottoms adjusts to all kinds of curves and ensures a feeling of security (and making your butt look nice). For anyone who is afraid of the nipples- every suit comes with a pair of pads that can be easily removed. Just as you would expect from any other bathing suit going in and out the water the pieces keep their shape and are fast drying. The top can also be worn as a bathing suit. Every season Deta incorporates crafted styles into the collection. For SS19 hand embroidered pieces are showing illustrations by the California based artist Lilian Martinez. Her artwork is inspired by comfort, beauty and humor. We love her easy and fun illustrations and they allow us to make a statement that fashion shouldn’t be taken too serious.

Loving handcrafts such as embroidery we were thinking about how to produce hand embroidery and realized that certain demographics have a very strong culture in handcraft. Seniors in general love to knit and crochet and they (usually) have tons of time. So the idea was born to walk down the block and ask in the local senior center if there are women interested to produce our embroidered pieces. Currently we are working with women form a senior center in Kensington, Brooklyn who are embroidering the SS19 pieces.
